Vermiculite is an expanded clay mineral that is often used to retain moisture in soil. It also allows for better drainage. Use carefully - too much and your media will be soaked and too little and it will be too dry. A very useful product that allows you to control the moisture of your media very well.This product allows soil to have better water or nutrient holding capabilities. Add accordingly. This is a great growing medium for hydroponic carrots, onions, radish and other tubular and bulb type plants that need a 12-inch depth for proper growth. For hydroponic applications, mix it with perlite at a ratio of one part vermiculite to four parts perlite. Actual item is finer than pictured.
